1 - Upstream Processing

Filtration is vital in upstream operations to protect fermentation and maintain process integrity. Sterile filtration ensures that cell culture media, nutrients, water, steam, and compressed gases remain contaminant-free. High-performance cartridge and stacked disc filters provide reliable protection for these critical inputs, supporting a stable and efficient fermentation process.

2- Product harvest

During product harvest, filtration plays a key role in separating cells and clarifying the culture. Frame filters such as BECO COMPACT® PLATE and CIP-capable BECO INTEGRA® PLATE enable pre-coat and body feed filtration, working in combination with depth filter sheets to handle very high cell concentrations while maintaining product quality. For economical separation of dense cell loads, multi-sheet filters equipped with BECO® or BECOPAD® depth sheets offer an efficient solution. Additionally, BECODISC® stacked disc cartridges housed in enclosed BECO INTEGRA DISC systems allow flexible, multi-stage configurations using baffle plates, significantly boosting filtration performance and ensuring process reliability.

3 - Downstream processing

In downstream processing, filtration ensures purity and consistency during critical purification and color correction steps. Activated carbon filtration is essential for decolorization, and solutions like BECO CARBON™ media and BECODISC BC cartridges provide a clean, controlled approach for adsorptive removal of by-products and discoloration—eliminating the need for loose carbon powder and reducing cleaning efforts. Depth filter sheets and stacked disc cartridges further clarify solutions, remove fine particles and colloids, and reduce microorganisms, while also protecting chromatography columns and membrane cartridges. For advanced hygiene and cleaning requirements, enclosed stacked disc housings paired with high-performance cartridges deliver secure, efficient filtration throughout the process.

4 - Filling

Before sterile filling of active cosmetic ingredients, pleated BECO membrane filter cartridges—tested for integrity—are used in enclosed BECO INTEGRA CART housings. These filters provide reliable microbial retention across various media, ensuring product safety and compliance with stringent quality standards.
