Transient Tuesday: Tales From the (NEC) Code webinar

Dive into the world of surge protective devices (SPDs) and the National Electrical Code (NEC) with a fun, engaging approach. Each quarterly session features Surgio, our comic strip superhero, who helps decode NEC requirements in a way that’s both educational and entertaining. Whether you're an installer, engineer or inspector, this training delivers the insights you need to stay ahead of code changes and confidently apply SPD solutions.

This quarter we’ll examine key code requirements such as Article 700.8, which mandates listed SPDs on emergency system switchboards and panelboards that support essential services like 911 dispatch, fire alarms, medical facilities and emergency lighting; Article 620.51(E), which calls for surge protection on disconnects feeding emergency designated elevator and conveyance equipment vital to safe evacuation; and Article 695.15, requiring SPDs for fire pumps - equipment the NFPA has identified as highly vulnerable to surge related damage. We’ll also cover the expanding role of SPDs within residential occupancies through Article 230.67(A), which now requires surge protection on all dwelling unit services.
