Eaton's integrated power management service enables commercial buildings to unlock the potential of green energy

Customer name: a prominent Chinese real estate company
Project location: Shanghai, China
Market Segment: Commercial Building
Project overview: Eaton deployed integrated green energy solutions for the customer's office building, including rooftop photovoltaic systems, industrial and commercial energy storage systems, smart charging piles, smart power distribution, and EMS integrated energy management systems. Through the interactive regulation of "source-grid-load-storage", it helps customers obtain clean electricity around the clock in their office buildings, reducing building energy consumption and operating costs.

Eaton solutions:

  • AC & DC EV Chargers
  • Containerized Battery Energy Storage
  • Intelligent Medium Voltage Switchgear
  • Compact Low Voltage Switchgear
  • Dry Type Transformer
  • Compact Busway
  • BrightlayerTM Energy Management System

Background:

As part of its key initiatives for carbon neutrality and emission reduction, the Shanghai Municipal Government encourages the owners of large-scale commercial and industrial buildings to undertake energy-efficient renovations, particularly by incorporating renewable energy applications into their energy mix.

In response to the government's call, a prominent Chinese real estate company, located next to Eaton’s APAC headquarters in Shanghai International Business Park, decided to partner with Eaton to create a green smart building showcase within their own properties.

Customer Needs:

  • Optimize the power distribution system
  • Reduce energy consumption and carbon emission
  • Enable intelligent operation and maintenance
  • Add EV charging infrastructure

Result:

  • Eaton provided the customer with a comprehensive power management solution, which included various hardware, software, consulting, and engineering services. This encompassed rooftop and building-integrated PV systems, an energy storage system, EV chargers, power distribution equipment, Energy Management Software (EMS), carbon-neutral design consulting, and system commissioning services. etc.
  • The rooftop distributed photovoltaic power generation system, covering approximately 500 square meters on the office building, produces an annual average of 100,000 kWh of clean electricity. This meets around 30% of the total electricity requirements and decreases carbon emissions by 60 tons.

Key Takeaways:

  • Eaton deployed a complete power management solution in the customer’s office building, including a rooftop solar system, energy storage, EV chargers, power distribution equipment and energy management software.
  • The implemented system allowed the building to utilize self-generated renewable energy around the clock, resulting in substantial energy cost savings and a reduction of 60 tons of carbon emissions annually.
  • This project aligns with the Shanghai Municipal Government's initiatives for carbon neutrality, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy applications in large-scale commercial buildings
  • Add EV charging infrastructure
