This section has requirements for one and two-family dwellings as well as multifamily dwelling requiring at least one receptacle outlet to be installed in garages, accessory buildings, and basements. The receptacles required as part of this section are in addition to any other receptacles that may be required in these locations for specific equipment.
NEC 2023 code change/intention
A sentence was added, “Receptacles supplying only a permanently installed premises security system shall not be considered as meeting these requirements.”
Rationale for change
Added clarity to ensure that the required receptacles of 210.52(G) are afforded GFCI protection and not misconstrued as being meant to serve an installed premises security system.
