In early 2025, Eaton partnered with Fundación Tomillo - a Madrid-based non-profit dedicated to improving education, employability, and social inclusion for young people from vulnerable backgrounds - to strengthen the organization’s technical training capabilities with the donation of a high-performance UPS system.
The initiative forms part of a broader collaboration with Microsoft to help develop the next wave of data center engineering talent, while supporting community organisations that create real pathways into technology careers.
To help Fundación Tomillo expand its hands-on training lab for electrical and IT students, Eaton donated an Eaton 93PS UPS, a robust and energy-efficient system widely used in professional data center environments. The 20 kW configuration included VRLA battery modules, a Gigabit Network Card for remote connectivity, and an internal maintenance bypass switch to simplify operational continuity.
Installation and commissioning was completed by Eaton technicians in July 2025. During the process, a number of initial configuration issues - such as a missing connection between the rectifier input and static bypass input - were resolved quickly, ensuring the system met full operational standards.
After the college’s summer break, , Eaton provided an on-site training course for Fundación Tomillo staff and instructors, giving them practical knowledge on UPS operation, maintenance, and power-quality fundamentals. The session also ensured the equipment can be safely used as a teaching tool for students preparing for real-world data center roles.
Across Europe, the data center industry is growing faster than the talent pipeline can keep up, and Fundación Tomillo is doing vital work to open doors for young people who may not otherwise have access to technical careers. Through this partnership we can give them access to the technology they’ll encounter in the real world. This collaboration is a natural extension of our long-standing partnership with Microsoft and our shared commitment to inclusive, sustainable growth.
The donation was part of a collaborative social impact activity with Microsoft linked to the close of a successful data center project in Madrid. Beyond celebrating delivery milestones, the goal was to make a tangible contribution to a challenge shared across the industry: the growing shortage of skilled professionals in data center operations, power management, and critical infrastructure engineering.
By supporting Fundación Tomillo’s educational mission, Eaton and Microsoft aim to give young people exposure to industry-standard technology and hands-on experience that can open the door to new career pathways in one of the world’s fastest-growing technical fields.
This initiative also reflects the wider partnership between Eaton and Microsoft around EnergyAware UPS technology, which enables UPS systems to interact dynamically with the electrical grid. By allowing data centers to support renewable energy integration, grid stability, and decarbonization objectives, EnergyAware aligns closely with Eaton’s Everything as a Grid vision and Microsoft’s ambitious sustainability commitments.
“This initiative shows what can happen when companies work together with local communities,” added Per Dreijer, Microsoft account manager, EMEA. “Our collaboration with Microsoft goes far beyond technology - it’s about creating opportunities, developing skills, and investing in the future workforce. Supporting Fundación Tomillo is a tangible way to make that vision real.”
From community training to next-generation UPS innovation, Eaton and Microsoft continue to collaborate on building a more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive digital infrastructure ecosystem.
