Buildings are living environments sustained by a variety of connected systems and driven by energy and power. Monitoring, optimizing and maintaining those systems proactively with the help of digital technologies can deliver significant cost savings, enable more agile operations and help operators reach their sustainability goals. Cost/benefit gaps, technology complexity and digital staffing challenges complicate the road ahead. Yet overall, the building sector is on the upslope of the digital maturity curve — still in the early stages but having clearly identified the need for and benefits of digitalization and energy and power transformation.
Those are among the major takeaways from a survey commissioned by Eaton and conducted by S&P Global Market Intelligence of 250 building owners and operators involved in their organization’s digital transformation efforts in eight countries across North America and Europe and the Middle East.
