Eaton and its joint venture raised nearly $170,000 for Make-A-Wish Foundation

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Intelligent power management company Eaton recently served as the lead sponsor of the 34th Annual Make-A-Wish® Michigan’s Wish-A-Mile® (WAM) Bicycle Tour, raising nearly $170,000 to help grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The tally brings Eaton’s overall contributions to the charity to more than $2.8 million over more than three decades.

“Eaton goes above and beyond, not only as a valued sponsor, but also providing vital volunteer support, critical logistics resources, and participant recruitment (...) We are incredibly grateful for Eaton’s continued support and commitment to making wishes come true for local children with critical illnesses.”

Michael Hull, CEO, Make-A-Wish Michigan
“As a company, we’re committed to making a difference for our customers and the communities where we live and work,” said David Karnes, vice president, Sales, North America Commercial Vehicle, Eaton’s Mobility Group. “Whether it is supporting an organization or local projects, our team members are always inspiring me and it’s incredible to see the impact we can have when we work together for a great cause.”

WAM is the largest fundraising event for Make-A-Wish Michigan and a key component in helping the charitable organization reach its goal of granting 500 wishes this year.

Eaton, which has been involved in WAM for more than 30 years and has served as the lead sponsor of the event for the past 16 years, also provided support vehicles, corporate funding and in-kind donations, including transportation, gasoline and driver expenditures.

In 2018, the Eaton Proving Grounds began hosting the Heroes Hurrah Finish Line Celebration. A 10-person committee of Eaton employees collaborated with Make-A-Wish Michigan to create a celebration experience for 3,000 attendees. Thirty percent of the 100 volunteer roles needed for the Heroes Hurrah Finish Line Celebration were filled by Eaton and joint venture employees. This event was also embraced by the community of Marshall with the ride traveling through the city’s downtown district.

Eaton participants included men and women of all ages, many of whom were on the bike team dubbed the “Power of One Eaton Road Warriors.”

“Our collective goal as a ‘Power of One Eaton Road Warrior’ team is to provide support to improve the quality of life for children with critical illnesses and their families within our community and state,” Karnes said. “The Wish-A-Mile Bicycle Tour has provided the opportunity for us to come together to make this happen.”
