PITTSBURGH … Power management company Eaton today announced that Joel Liu is one of eight employees across Eaton’s global operations to be awarded with the 2022 James R. Stover Volunteerism Award for his dedication and service to the community. Joel serves as the engineering manager for Advanced Power Systems within Eaton’s Electrical Sector – Americas region and is based in the Pleasanton office.
Dr. Joel Liu co-founded the Tri-Valley Asian Association, serves as the Chair of the Committee on Energy and the Environment in Pleasanton, and is also a member of the Community Advisory Committee of the East Bay Community Energy. Additionally, he has volunteered for 17 years at the Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA and founded the Distinguished Community Leadership and Services Award, which recognizes Asian-American engineers and scientists who are involved in community service and leadership.
“I want to thank all the people in the local community who have supported my volunteer activities,” said Liu. “Many of my volunteering activities are a team effort. It was those great people in our community who made the activities more successful. Knowing and working with them through the volunteer activities makes my volunteer journey more enjoyable.”
Pleasanton Mayor Karla Brown shared her experiences working with Liu, “As Mayor of the City of Pleasanton, I am honored to have Mr. Joel Liu serve as our Chair of the Energy and the Environment Committee. Utilizing his education, professional knowledge and leadership skills, Joel helped to provide direction and critical support for Pleasanton’s compliance with the State of California’s Climate Action Plan 2.0. In addition, Mr. Liu is the City of Pleasanton’s East Bay Community Energy’s representative on their Community Advisory Committee. I was proud to learn Eaton has also recognized Mr. Liu’s commitment to his community by bestowing him the prestigious Stover Award.”
“I’m proud to help recognize Joel’s work because of how he has woven so many personal and important causes together to great effect, from encouraging connections between local Asian-Americans interested in science and public affairs, to advising his local governmental committees on energy and environmental issues,” shared Brian Brickhouse, president of Eaton’s Electrical Sector, Americas region. “Joel’s commitment to his community is inspiring, and a wonderful example of what Eaton’s Stover Awards celebrates.”
Eaton established the Stover Awards in 1993 to honor those who have gone above and beyond to create meaningful change and whose contributions and passion exemplify the values and the dedication of Eaton’s former Chairman, Jim Stover. In recognition of the winners’ remarkable commitment to strengthening their communities, a $5,000 USD donation will be made in their name to an eligible non-profit organization of their choice.
