Eaton Olean’s Joseph Sorokes Recognized for Volunteerism

June 1, 2016

Olean, NY … Power management company Eaton has named Joseph (Jay) Sorokes, supply chain manager, from the company’s Olean, New York, facility one of seven winners of its 2016 Stover Award, which recognizes employees for outstanding community service.

“We’re thrilled that Jay is being recognized for his extraordinary accomplishments to the community. He is an exceptional example of a leader in the greater Olean area.” said Jason R. Burt, plant manager, Olean facility.  “If you ever meet Jay, you will quickly see his passion and commitment to our community.”

Sorokes grew up in Olean and attended St. Bonaventure University. Since joining Eaton in 1994, he has participated in and led countless programs that have helped improve the community and enhance the lives of others.

Sorokes is a member of the Olean Greater Chamber of Commerce and is involved in several city committees.  He is a founding board member for the Olean Business Development, which was established to set strategic priorities, provide local leadership and acquire the necessary resources to create a climate of economic opportunity and prosperity in the greater Olean community.

Sorokes also co-led the startup of the Sole for Souls Walk which supports teen suicide prevention efforts and raised more than $5,000 to help individuals that are in need of grief counseling. Other programs and activities he has helped organize and other local accomplishments he’s led include:

  • Serves as a board member of the United Way of Cattaraugus County since 2008;
  • Coordinates events at St. John’s Church to support local charities; and
  • Acts as Eaton’s team captain for Olean Litter Control program.

As a winner of the Stover Award, Sorokes chose the Olean Business Development as his non-profit group to which Eaton will donate $2,500 in his name. The award is named after James R. Stover, Eaton’s chairman and CEO from 1986 to 1991, who was known for his leadership and service to the community. Sorokes will be honored along with the other recipients during an awards luncheon on June 13 at Eaton Center in Beachwood, Ohio.
