How would you describe yourself?

I'm enthusiastic and diligent. I enjoy celebrating differences so I thrive working with diverse teams working towards common goals. I like solving problems and tend to be quite organised.

What do you do on a daily basis and what skills are needed?

As a project lead, I'm responsible for engagement with business units or customers and I make decisions regarding various projects. We design intelligent edge computation platforms and systems, so I need to work with many stakeholders to verify our product requirements, design system architectures and develop firmware. Having the necessary skills involves possessing a strong technical background in addition to maintaining a great aptitude for working well with other people. Good communication is also important as I need to clearly convey the nature of the problems we’re solving, as well as the business impact we will have.

What are some current challenges and opportunities in your work area?

I work as a senior systems engineer at Eaton’s Centre for Intelligent Power and our mission is to embed intelligence into Eaton products and to provide added value to our customers and end users. It is challenging to fundamentally change how we design and develop products and to contribute to an evolving edge intelligence eco system. Although we are solving technical problems, it often comes down to dealing with other people and bringing them along on our journey to becoming an intelligent power management company.

How does your work contribute to Eaton’s bigger picture?

I’m lucky to be part of a new group within Eaton - the Centre for Intelligent Power - that is key to the company’s digitisation strategy. This means that the work we do has high visibility, and this yields great opportunities for us to showcase our work to high profile decision-makers within Eaton and at external conferences and events. Eaton is set to transform from a power management company - to an intelligent power management company - so it’s very exciting to be part of this transformation.

What’s most challenging about your role?

The most challenging aspect of my role is trying to juggle several tasks at once and also trying to develop converged, reusable, extendable solutions for various applications. Having said that, the broad scope of the projects we get to work on is one of my favourite aspects of working at Eaton. It’s exciting to be helping to build the future.

What skills and qualities are most valued at Eaton?

Apart from technical skills such as data science, software engineering, data engineering, user experience design, artificial intelligence and machine learning, Eaton looks for candidates who can work well with others and can effectively communicate their ideas.

Can you describe Eaton's work culture?

At Eaton, we have an ethical, diverse and inclusive culture and we're relentless in our pursuit of excellence. We're a team so we always celebrate each other’s wins.

What's your top piece of career advice for further women?

Growth begins at the end of your comfort zone - and the journey is the destination.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I enjoy musical theatre - both performing, teaching and going to the theatre. I also like to stay active by cycling, surfing, skiing and hiking. I love traveling and going to music concerts. I also enjoy mentoring other people.
